Kirtan is a singing and musical experience that involves ancient Sanskrit chants. Instruments such as harmonium, the even or ektrar (a form of string instrument), the tabla (one sided drum), the mrdanga or pakhawaj (two sided drum), flute and karatalas or talas (cymbals) are used while chanting a mantra that consists of ancient sounds. This form of musical chants originated in India and is used in meditation, yoga and dance. It has the ability to quite the mind and when singing together in a group you can experience a deep connection with yourself and everyone in the room. You experience the the scared connection of singing in a ancient holy language together. The magic of the chant carries you within to experiences healing on the level of the soul.
