Sidearmnation Podcast - A Unique Baseball Podcast is a program that focuses on a special aspect of baseball. Submarine pitching or sidearm pitching is rarely discussed when talking about baseball. This show intends to correct that by featuring pitchers who use that style. These athletes not only analyze the game as a whole but also explain why they choose to use this unusual method. By doing so they can provide extra insights into the science of baseball.
The host and creator of this podcast is Geoff Freeborn. He is a former pro player who pitched for the Calgary Vipers and the Yuma Scorpions from 2006 to 2011. Freeborn began utilizing sidearm pitching when he started having issues with his shoulder. Upon doing so he realized that he was dealing with significantly less shoulder pain.
Upon retiring from playing full-time the podcast host founded the company Sidearmnation. This venture company runs several camps throughout the year in Freeborn's native Canada. It promotes this style of pitching to emerging players to help reduce injury. Freeborn was the head baseball coach at the University of Calgary from 2018 to 2020. In addition to his work as a coach and instructor he is also a scout for the Cincinnati Reds.
Freeborn conducts a new interview in each episode of the Sidearmnation Podcast. In many instances the guests work in the MLB or one of the adjoining pro baseball leagues. As a pitcher the host has direct interest in interviewing other players in the same position.
Bill "Spaceman" Lee Andrew Gross and Bo Schultz are among the guests featured on the show. While they do discuss pitching techniques that is not the sole purpose of the Sidearmnation Podcast. The show examines how the game has changed depending on whether the player is active.
Sidearmnation Podcast - A Unique Baseball Podcast airs new episodes several times a month. Each episode is an average of 60 minutes long.
